Addie allows you to store and share items (files, links, and notes). Everything you add is completely private until you choose to share it — you may choose to keep some items completely private, share some directly with people you know, and make others public for the entire Addie community to see. It's completely up to you.
Just click the red Add Item button in the header and choose the file option.
You can choose any file to upload (up to 250MB). If you like, you can give this file a name — if no name is provided, we'll just give the item the same name as the file you've chosen.
When you click Upload this File, we'll begin the upload. Please wait for the upload to complete. When the upload is complete you'll be taken to a page where you can immediately choose which, if any, of your contacts you'd like share with and which, if any, folders you'd like to place the file in.
If you know you don't want to share or organize this file, you can check the box for: Add without sharing or organizing and when your upload is complete you'll be taken directly to the item.
Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, it may take several minutes to upload larger files.
On the upload screen you'll see a link to add multiple files at once — this will take you to our multi-file uploader.
Here you can select up to 25 files to be upload together. Just click the Add files button to select your files. In more modern browsers, you can try dragging and dropping files directly unto the uploader. Once you've select all your files, click Start upload to begin the upload.
Please wait until all your files have uploaded and you'll be taken to your items page and the files you added will be on top.
If you want to continue to use Addie while you wait, just click the link on the left side to open Addie in a new window.
You can add a contact on your contacts page by clicking the Quick Add button. Just enter a name and a valid email address. When you add a contact, we'll send your new contact an email letting them know.
You may also add a contact directly from the left sidebar — just click the Add a Contact button.
Yes. We allow you to import your contacts from Gmail, MSN/Hotmail, and Yahoo. You will need to provide your username and password and allow us to grab your contacts. We will never store any information that you provide.
If you have your contacts in another format (such as a .csv file), let us via email at email@example.com and we'll see what we can do to help.
Whenever you add an item to Addie, you'll have the option to immediately share it with any new or existing contacts, but you can also share or unshare it later.

You can also drag and drop items to share with a group or to add the items to a folder.
When you share an item or folder with one of your contacts, we let them know via their email summary, which we send only as needed.
If the contact is an Addie user, the item(s) you shared will appear in their items and they will be able to comment and suggest other contacts you should share with.
If the contact is not an Addie user, we'll send them a unique link so only they can see what you shared. They do not need to join Addie to see shared items, but will need to join if they want to download or comment.
Yes. You can share any folder with any of your contacts. Just go to the folder and click Share under the folder name. You'll be able to check and uncheck the contacts that you want to have access to the folder.
When you share a folder, you share all the items in the folder and anyone you share with is able to place their own items in the folder.
A group is a quick and easy way to share with multiple contacts at once. When you start with Addie, you'll see family, friends, and coworkers in your groups. You can add members to these and add groups of your own.
When you share an item with a group, all members of that group will have access to the item.
Contacts can be in multiple groups and your contacts will not know which, if any, groups you place them in. Groups are just for you.
When viewing any one of your groups, you can see a full list of all your contacts below. From this list, you can check and uncheck the contacts you want as members of the group. Use the real-time search if you're looking for someone in particular.
Also, when you're viewing your contacts, you can simply drag one or multiple contacts to a group name in the left sidebar and when you release, they will be added to that group.
To share with a group, you must use our drag and drop feature. Simply click and drag any item in the gallery or list view to the name of a group in the left sidebar. Once you release, the item will be shared with all the members of the group. You may also select multiple items at once and drag them all to a group to share them all at once.
LIST VIEW: With the list view, you can see a small thumbnail image, the name of the item, whether the item is public, and the number of comments.
All the items in the list view that you own (i.e. items you added to Addie) have a checkbox next to them. Select one or more items to drag them all to a folder, person, or group in the left sidebar.

You can select multiple items by clicking checkboxes or you can draw a rectangle with your cursor to select multiple items at once, just like on your desktop. Select one or more items to drag them all to a folder, person, or group in the left sidebar.
Your items page shows all the items you have. If you click on any of your items, you'll be able to view it on it's own page.
When you view an item, you'll see the item as well as details about how it is shared, which folders it is in, and whether it public or private.
If you own an item, you'll see links to edit or delete the item as well as the options to manage how the file is shared and organized.
Depending on what set of items you were viewing when you clicked to see an item, there may be a next and previous items available. Easily browse through items by using the next and previous buttons or just simply use the right (→) and left (←) arrow keys on your keyboard.
If the item you are viewing is a photo or other type of file, you'll see a download button. Click this and your browser will download the file. For photos, you'll download the original size that was uploaded.
You can only edit items you added to Addie. When you view an item, you will see an edit button. For photos and files, you'll be able to edit the name of the item. For notes, you'll be able to edit the title, text, and formatting. When you edit link, you can change the actual link or just the details, such as the title, thumb, and description.
Addie lets you add items to folders. You can create as many folders as you like and one item can be placed in multiple folders. You can keep a folder private or you may share it with others. We start you off with a favorites folder that you can use or delete.
Regardless of any folders your items may be in, all your items and items shared with you appear in your items view.
You can see all your folders by clicking on the folders tab in the header. You also find a list of all your folders in the left sidebar, along with your contacts, and groups. You can tell by the icon next to the folder name if the folder is private to just you or shared with others.
If you have a lot of folders, you can use our real-time search to quickly find the folder you're looking for. Just start typing and we'll provide immediately results.
Whenever you're looking at a list or gallery view, you can select one or more items and simply drag the item(s) to any folder name in the left sidebar and they will be added to the folder. Use this feature to move many items at once with ease.
You can also drag and drop items to share them with a contact or group.
If someone shared a folder with you an you'd rather not see it anymore, you can click on the folder name to view the folder. You'll see a button to Reject Folder Access. Click this and you'll no longer have access to the folder and it will no longer appear among your items or folders.
In addition to private storage and direct, private sharing with others, Addie also lets you make any of you items public so that you can share a public link with others. That way, you have a direct link to any file, link, or note that you can share via email, Facebook, twitter, or on your blog.
Just make any item public and you'll be able to post to Facebook or get the link to share.
Any public item can be posted to Facebook. If you want to post a private item to Facebook, you will first need to make it public. When you post the item to Facebook, we'll put a post on your wall that links to the Addie page where your item lives.
If you'd like to share your item in other ways, you can simply share the public link anyone
You cannot share a link to a private item. In order to ensure we keep the privacy you need for all of your items, if an item is not public, you must add anyone you want to share with as a contact with an email address. This way we can make sure that only the person with email you provided will be able to see your item.
Just remember to share with contacts to share privately and to share with the whole world, make your item public.
Whenever you make an item public, you have the option to add the item to a public collection. A collection is a way to group your public items. A collection is a way to create a public album of photos, group of similar links, various thoughts on certain subject, or anything in between.
A public item can only appear in one collection and visitors to your public page will be able to see all your items or just view one of your collections.
For any public item, you have the option to embed that item on your website or blog. Every public item has a unique embed code that you can grab when viewing the item. Just click Embed to copy the code.
Paste the code into the body area of your html file or blog post.
Whether the item is a file, link, or note, when you embed it on your website, visitors will be able to see the item, the number of likes, and any public comments. Addie users that are logged in will be able to like, comment, and download the item without ever leaving your page.
